How one-on-one interactions help business operations

Few things are more important to a well-run workplace than the one-on-one interaction between a project manager and an employee. Companies can only succeed if their best workers stay motivated and are assigned to tasks that make the best use of their skills and time. But managers cannot get the right fit if they don't spend time with each employee in person.

Writing for Forbes, startup founder Michael Wolfe offered some tips for managers who want to get the most out of these meetings.

First, it's important to develop a schedule that works for the whole company. Wolfe suggests holding team-wide meetings on Mondays, individual meetings throughout the week, and more team-wide meetings on Fridays. For larger companies with multiple layers of management, it is simple enough to use this model to make sure that everyone gets face time.

The advantages of consistent meetings are myriad. Wolfe writes that one of the most important interactions between a project manager and an employee involves giving feedback. These exchanges must occur regularly, so that employees can receive immediate reactions to the work they have done recently.

In addition, regular communication builds transparency, where everyone in an organization knows what is going on at all times, and feels confident that their work matters. As a result, employees feel trusted by their managers and engaged with their work going forward.
